Strings
Students at Cedar Hill have the opportunity to participate in our Strings Program regardless of previous experience. We offer three levels of Strings ensembles: Beginner, Junior, and Senior.
Students may choose to play violin, viola, cello or double bass. When selecting an instrument, please check for correct sizing. Students will require extra strings, rosin, a shoulder rest and/or sponge and elastic.
Beginning Strings
Beginning Strings is for students who have never played a string instrument and/or students who are switching to a new stringed instrument. This program runs from September through December. Students in Beginning Strings work toward merging into our Junior Strings ensemble in January.
Required Method Book: Strictly Strings - Book 1
Junior Strings (Grade 6)
Junior Strings is for students with 1 year of playing experience. This class continues to work on developing proper playing technique and developing the ear. The students also work toward playing as an orchestra with varied instrumentation.

Intermediate Strings
Intermediate Strings is for students with 2-3 years of playing experience. This class continues to work on developing proper playing technique and developing the ear. The students also work toward playing as an orchestra with varied instrumentation.

Advanced Strings
Advanced Strings is for students with 2-3 years of playing experience and/or students who have studied privately. Students work toward playing as an ensemble and working independent of the teacher. This ensemble is an enrichment ensemble with entrance "by permission", as the skills taught will be advanced. The students in this ensemble also mentor our Intermediate and Junior Strings students throughout the year.

Orchestra
Orchestra is for all of our strings students. This ensemble provides an opportunity for all of our students to come together to play as a large orchestra. The focus of this rehearsal is on learning repertoire and playing as an ensemble.
